Pre-Law Resources
- Pre-Law Resource Room
- The Resource Room, which is located in 329 Hall of Languages, contains a small collection of books, journals, and magazines that address a broad range of pre-law and law school topics. In addition, there is a computer available for students' use. Students are welcome to browse the resources from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm weekdays (8:00 am until 4:30 pm during the summer). No appointment is necessary.
- Pre-Law Handbook
- Preparing for the Study of Law: The Lowdown on Law School is required reading for any student applying to or even thinking about law school. It's brimming with important information for each stage of the law school process—from determining whether a legal education is right for you through responding to admissions decisions. It also includes an interesting appendix listing of schools to which more than 30 SU students applied and were admitted. Click here to view online.
- Pre-Law Events Calendar
- Published each semester, the events calendar provides a current listing of workshops, presentations, and events of interest to pre-law students, including the SU College of Law speaker series. The calendar is distributed in print and electronically. Click here to view online.
- Pre-Law Briefs Listserv
- Each week during the academic year, the Pre-Law Advising Services office notifies all registered pre-law students about upcoming workshops, presentations, and events, as well as information pertaining to the law school application process. Students interested in subscribing to the listserv should visit 329 Hall of Languages to complete a brief registration form.
- SU Internship Program (SUIP)
- SUIP assists all students in identifying, applying for, and obtaining internship opportunities, which may be credit or non-credit bearing and paid or unpaid. Internships with local attorneys and law enforcement agencies are available year-round. In addition, SUIP will guide students in the process of locating law-related internships in other cities. For more information, visit the SUIP office at 235 Schine Student Center (in the Center for Career Services), call 315-443-3616 or send an e-mail to careers@syr.edu.
- Dean's Certification Requests
- Some law schools require that applicants obtain a signed form or letter from the Dean of all schools or colleges which they have attended to certify that the student is in good standing with the school. If a law school requires a Dean's Certification form, it will be listed with that school's application for admission under "Supplemental Forms" on the LSAC/LSDAS Web site. All current and former SU students should submit their requests for Dean's Certification to Lynn Fall in the office of Pre-Law Advising Services, either via mail (329 HL, Syracuse, NY 13244-1170) or fax (315-443-9397). If you have questions regarding the process, please contact Lynn at 315-443-6228 or via e-mail (lfall@syr.edu). When submitting your request(s), please include a signed release form which can be downloaded here.
