Staying Out of Trouble

It should come as no surprise to students that law schools will ask about and pay careful attention to a student's academic and social disciplinary records. The schools are typically of the opinion that a student's records will shed light on his or her character and fitness to practice law (and, by implication, to attend law school). If you have an inkling that you would like to pursue law school, avoid any behavior or actions that might jeopardize that prospect, including:

  • low or failing grades
  • a semester GPA below 2.0
  • violating the "Code of Student Conduct"
  • being placed on probation
  • being required to withdraw
  • receiving any other kind of University sanction
